How can I pay at the checkout (beacon)?

Process for making a beacon payment

  1. Turn on Bluetooth to pay at the beacon
  2. If you are still on your home screen, you can touch the TWINT beacon with your smartphone to establish a connection.
  3. By tapping "Pay now", a strong signal is emitted up to one meter. In this way you can establish a connection even from some distance.
  4. If this doesn't work, you can hold your smartphone to the beacon directly on the next screen or amplify the signal by tapping "Make payment."
  5. After the connection has been established, the merchant's data and the amount are loaded; you can then pay with "Slide to pay."

Special instructions for Android versions 5-7

  • Android 5: In addition to activating Bluetooth, you must also switch on your location service. You can find this in your settings or simply by pulling down the top menu. After switching on your location service, it should be possible to connect with the beacon.
  • Android 6 & 7: The location service must be switched on for these versions as well, as with Android 5. In addition, you must allow the UBS TWINT app to access your location so that a connection with the beacon can be established. When you click on "Pay now" or "Make payment," a pop-up window will appear, asking you to allow UBS TWINT to access your location. If this does not appear, follow this path to share your location with UBS TWINT: Settings -> Select apps -> Select UBS TWINT -> Select permissions -> Set location access to "on."
  • For all versions the following error will occur if:
    1) The Android user does not allow UBS TWINT to access their location when the app is started (Bluetooth is turned off).
    2) The user wants to pay at the beacon but refuses to allow access to their location.
    3) The user is at the "Activate Bluetooth" screen and turns Bluetooth on –> The screen does not disappear as it should.
Solution: Allow the app to access your location, as described above; then you can pay at the beacon.

Our customer service team will be happy to answer any other questions you may have.
